Our AU Story

We know that we provide students with something spectacular at Anderson University. We see the evidence of it in the transformation of our students, in the depth of their faith, in their appetite for inquiry, in the way they treat one another. We have created and sustained an experience that produces graduates unlike those of even our closest competitors—and we need to articulate that experience to others.

We have a story. Our story is defined by what we do and do not believe.

Our story is about real freedom. Let’s learn how to tell it.

We invite you to join in the dialogue. Visit the Our AU Story website, and please feel free to comment. Your story is a part of Our AU Story.

Why Would God ...?

What kind of a God wouldn’t do something about this awfulness in my life?
Why doesn’t God do what I want Him to do?
Why doesn’t God answer me?
Why should I have faith in a God Who doesn’t give me what I want?
Why should I even think God is out there at all?
I took a stab at some answers to these tough questions in today's entry on my caregiver devotional blog:
Hope it gets you thinking about your own situation in a fresh way.

Carol Lynne Olson Usher

Jim Usher meets Carol Lynne Olson at AC 1964

I just wrote the story below for our retirement village's February newsletter. I've added a few names that may mean something to alums.

Third Time’s a Charm

The first time he saw her, her ex-boyfriend pointed her out from an upper window on campus.

The first time he talked to her, he startled her by calling her by name in the line at the cafeteria. Then he had to explain that he knew who she was because her brokenhearted ex-boyfriend had come to him for counsel on how to deal with the breakup.

The first time she accepted his proposal of marriage he gave her a promise ring of two pearls. When her mother (June Cima Olson '44) saw it she was worried that her freshman daughter would not finish her education. A year later she broke up with him because he pooh-poohed her dream of being a missionary and she was headed to a TRI -S trip to Panama.

The second time he proposed she was a junior, he had graduated, and was earning enough money as an associate… Continue

AU hires Ladner as head football coach

Anderson University has announced the hiring of Bobby Ladner to be the new head football coach. Ladner replaces Jeff Judge, who guided the Ravens from 2003-2011. Ladner comes to Anderson University from Concordia University in Selma, Ala., where he served as assistant football coach and recruiting coordinator. Prior to his time at Concordia University, Ladner [...]

AU campaign is a job well done

What began as a dream in 2006 is now a reality. Anderson University has raised $113 million in the largest fundraiser the school has attempted. It was an October afternoon more than five years ago when AU President James Edwards said the university planned to raise $110 million. Before the announcement was even made, some big [...]
